Letter writing practice

In honor of National Letter writing day, we've put together some fun educational activities to help teach children about letter writing! If your child(ren) are not writing on their own yet, you can make dots for them to trace. If your child is learning to write on their own, let them give it their best try. Children who are not yet writing make draw pictures instead while you show them how to address a letter!

How to write a letter:

1. Address your letter (Who are you writing?)

2. What will be the topic of your letter? (What are you writing about?) Holiday greetings (Which holiday are you celebrating?) Some other ideas for letter topics are: Favorite sport, game, your day, and School

3. Closing your letter (Wrapping it up and tying everything together)

4. Signing your letter (Sign your name at the end of your letter so the person you are writing knows who the letter came from

5. Put your letter in an envelope, address it, stamp it and put it the mailbox

6. Wait for a response!

With the holidays quickly approaching, another fun way to practice letter writing is, writing and addressing holiday cards! This makes the topic easy as you simply have to pick your favorite holiday! In choosing to write holiday cards your child may have some questions about why we write and send cards. This is the perfect time to teach them more about the holiday and meaning behind the cards! If you are not sure about some of the reasons, you can look them up with your child. This will also help your child understand that it's okay to not know everything and even adults are still learning!
