Kwanzaa Books

Kwanzaa is quickly approaching and we are very excited! There are so many themes and traditions celebrated in this holiday. If you're looking for fun and engaging ways to teach your children about this holiday, then you're in luck! We've created a list of some really incredible and educational books all about Kwanzaa. Each book is filled with wonderful themes, as well as many great stories and characters. We hope you take a look and enjoy reading them with your children.

Infants


1. My First Kwanzaa (My First Holiday) by Karen Katz

This a fun picture book that is incredibly helpful in teaching your young ones all about Kwanzaa. This book includes colorful illustrations from the perspective of our young character, as her family celebrates the holiday. Fun and educational traditions are explored and depicted; guaranteed to be loved by your children. Another bonus, is multiple vocabulary words, that are broken down and explained to help understand the holiday as well.


2. Kwanzaa Kids (Lift-the-Flap, Puffin) by Joan Holub

In this festive book, children explore the different elements of Kwanzaa. Each day included in the story, includes a certain candle and its meaning for Kwanzaa. There's many bright pages and definitions and symbols included as well. Children can learn and have fun lifting the flaps with each new discover of the holiday!

This is a cute and creative book that explores the themes of Kwanzaa, told through the alphabet. Your children will have a chance to practice their letters, while also being able to enjoy learning about this holiday. It includes bright and cute illustrations as well.


4. The Sound of Kwanzaa by Dimitrea Tokunbo

Learn the seven principles of Kwanzaa with this entertaining book. The sound of Kwanzaa focuses on themes of the celebration, and includes easy to understand dialog. The text is written as a song or rhyme, and includes many colorful pages to complement the story. This book will keep your children entertained, as they can act out what is happening as well.

5. Kevin's Kwanzaa by Lisa Bullard

This is another wonderful Kwanzaa book. The story details our main character Kevin, who helps his family prepare for the holiday. Each chapter focuses on a different element of the celebration, with different names and items. This book is simple yet engaging, with entertaining illustrations.



6. Together for Kwanzaa (Pictureback(R) by Juwanda G. Ford

In this story, we follow our main character Kayla, as her family prepares for Kwanzaa,. Kayla is worried her older brother will not be able to make it for the celebration. This book covers different Kwanzaa themes and traditions, paired with amazing illustrations that will capture the attention of your children.
